There are so many fruits you haven’t tasted

so many beautiful songs you have not discovered

spices you’ve never heard of

and intriguing conversations you haven’t had

there are oceans you have not felt

and plants you’ve never seen

books you’ve never read

and souls your heart has not touched

this Earth is incredible.

How about no.
This itches.
Stop it.
Stop growing extra skin.
Why do I have two auto-immune diseases?
Make it stop.
Seriously.

I am all of my hair.
I have never believed in the statement, “I am not my hair.” As a natural-haired woman that transitioned, I am very much my hair. Let’s be clear, though. My hair in itself is just hair. If one day I felt like cutting it all off, I would do so in a minute and not regret it or think twice about it. While it doesn’t define who I am, it is an extension of my journey of self-discovery, self-love, and re-claiming parts of me erased by different social and historical factors. It’s been an integral part of my growth, even while I am not attached to it. For me, the love and effort I put into transitioning my hair is deeper and wider than some of the relationships I’ve had.  Instead of the phrase, ‘i am not my hair,’ I think the phrase should be re-tooled into, "I am more than my hair." or, "My hair is more than just hair."  Regardless, the premise of all of the quotes is to underline the fact that we are more than any of our physical features; but we shouldn’t forget that some naturals do indeed, have a deeper thread of truth, meaning and sense of worth intertwined into their hair journey
